When do I need a low-pressure valve?
Low-pressure fittings are necessary if you heat your hot water using a boiler or water heater. As shown in the image, you can usually identify this by a small box below the sink. Low-pressure fittings also have three connections: two of which are connected to the boiler and one to the cold water connection or angle valve in the wall. Please check your installation type before ordering.

It is normal for some water to still leak out when you turn off the faucet because the pressure decreases.
This is because water expands when heated and thus increases its volume. So every time you use your low-pressure tap and get hot water, cold water flows into the boiler or under-sink appliance and displaces the hot water that comes out of the tap. Now turn the low-pressure tap back on. However, if the system were completely closed, you would have a problem. This is because the water in your boiler is now reheated by the boiler and expands. In a closed system, the pressure would build up and could damage the boiler. Even when the tap is turned off, water still flows out of the tap through a permanently open hose. Low-pressure taps are called this because the entire system between the hot water heater and the tap must be depressurized. So when the water in the boiler expands, it is pushed out of the boiler in small pieces into the pipe system as it expands. This causes your low-pressure tap to drip and the water can drain out of the system.
